Make emu faster, stop working on ProOnline

Make emu faster, stop working on ProOnline
Please, make emu faster, and make it's compatibility better. Many games cannot be playable at all or cannot be playable on decen't speed. In many games there are graphical glitches, there are sound problems. Fix that devs, stop working on ProOnline. Why do we need that for now? You can work on that when u make emu better (faster, better compatibility and else). From what i can see, this emu is in very early stage. It's system requirements are higher than pcsx2 emulator requirements. With cpu you need to have to play psp games at some good speed (not full speed in most games) u can play ps2 games at full HD resolution 60FPS all the time. Don't know why is that, maybe because of java, realy don't know. Cmon guys, i love psp games (god of war, dragonball z, and many others) but i have to buy new cpu (4 cores minimum) to play god of war at 50 fps. With my dual core (with speed hacks on pcsx2) i can reach 50-60 fps on god of war. Do something about this emu, don't work on some things that no one (except few maybe) use. That's all i have to say. Cheers!

You're welcome to work on the code. JPCSP is open source.

RE: Make emu faster, stop working on ProOnline
Sounds like your pc isn't fast enough to run it, I can get 70-100 % speed on many games, As for compatibility adding networking is upping the compatibility some games might need to initialize the network to function properly, as with any emu the first thing is to get everything working after that it can be optimized for speed, when pcsx2 started out it ran at 0.05 ~ 15 FPS max, with extremely broken textures, you just happen to come across pcsx2 after its already been developed for 13 years,
pcsx2 also had a lot more developers working on it (actually it had a few teams, and plugin developers, each with their own specialty area to work on).

Jpcsp only has a few active devs, though from the development stage that jpcsp is at now, it's already years ahead of its time if you compared it to other emulators.

As bugmenot mentioned its open source, if you have something to add make a patch and it might get committed, if you don't know programming then the best thing you can do is post a log if you know a broken game, though it won't guarantee a fix it could provide insight to fix it in the future.

Looking at the svn I see a lot being done then just proOnline, several improvements have been done to various parts of the emulator (ex r2602~r2607)

RE: Make emu faster, stop working on ProOnline
Hi!

as a few unhappy people already addressed this topic (see http://code.google.com/p/jpcsp/source/detail?r=2595 ), I would like to clarify some points.

I'm always working on several topics in parallel: new features, performance improvement, compatibility... there is no such simple world as working only on one aspect and neglecting the others. It's always a balance between all.

One of my first priorities is also to help homebrew developers. If you are developing one, feel free to contact me, sharing the source code is usually the most efficient way to make progress. I will help as much as I can.

Concerning the support of ProOnline in Jpcsp, I have been contacted by Coldbird who created the "homebrew" ProOnline client for the PSP and he asked me if we could add support in Jpcsp. This would help him to further develop the ProOnline client. This is why I've moved this feature to the top of my todo list.

But as I wrote, it doesn't mean I'm not working on other topics as well. Actually, the progress on compatibility could be faster if I had more log files posted on the forum. I am looking in detail at each of these and this is the main input I have. Posting a log file doesn't necessarily mean I will be able to find a solution, don't put your expectations too high. But without a log file, the chances are almost 0. I would say that around 10% of the log files really help me, but this is still better than nothing at all. I'm not responding to every post, only to the ones where I was able to find something. But this does not mean I'm ignoring the other ones.

I wish we had the same number of active developers for Jpcsp as for pcsx2. During the last months, I'm feeling quite alone here for the dev work! No volunteers around?

If you want to help, post reports including log files for the games you own and sometimes a screenshot or video if it helps to understand.

BTW, thank you for deciding what I have to do during my free time, but I prefer to decide by myself Wink

Always include a complete log file at INFO level in your reports. Thanks! How to post a log

RE: Make emu faster, stop working on ProOnline
First of all I want to thank the JPCSP team for the emulator and say that I know it is years ahead of the rest in development. (like hyakki said)
What I want to ask is why do you consider online play to be a priority right now. You said you work on several things at the same time but of the last 150 svn maybe 145 were about online play. Working on emulation and speed would benefit every single game, working on the online play would only benefit a handful of games that need it.

Intel Core i5 - Geforce 560ti 1GB RAM - 8GB RAM - Windows 7 64bits

From the last 150 svn, 52 were concerning network (not just PRO online, all kind of network changes) and 98 were concerning compatibility, speed, new features... is it not several things at the same time?

If you want to help, post test reports including log file. When also looking at numbers, I could not find a single log file in your posts... Wink

As I wrote above, one of my first priorities is also to help homebrew developers.

You want to make emu faster ? Buy PSP. That's your answer. Dont complaint to the developer. Patience is a virtue.
