You might need Xuggle and turn invalid memory processes off, as that is one of the more common reasons for freezes.
As much as I understand your sister, you should tell her that most parts of JPCSP are open source and because of the nature of open source, there is no danger for malware. In fact, many copyrighted programs may cause more issues than open source.
